Stomatocytes
      
        Synonyms: Cup cell, Knizocyte, Slit cell      
    Erythrocytes with a mouth- or slit-shaped central pale part, making them resemble coffee beans or kissing lips. This shape abnormality arises from a change in the cell's membrane or ion homeostasis due to lipid disorders, hereditary defects, low pH or cationic medication.
'Stoma' is ancient Greek for 'mouth'
