Howell-Jolly
Howell-Jolly bodies are nuclear remnants (DNA). Usually only one can be seen per erythrocyte. The inclusions are sharply delineated and should not be confused with a thrombocyte lying underneath or on top of the erythrocyte.
Normally, erythrocytes with a nuclear remnant are removed by the spleen. Thus, their presence may indicate inadequate, reduced or completely absent spleen (function).
