Orthochromatic erythroblast
Synonyms: Normoblast, NRBC
An orthochromatic erythroblast has a round, dark nucleus with an almost absent/uniform chromatin pattern. The nucleus is dying and will be expelled from the cell in the next maturation step. The cytoplasm is grayish blue/purple.
